BIOGRAPHY
Kim Holmes, legendary hip hop dancer, teacher, choreographer, and founder and artistic director of the Universal Dance Movement, has been in the field of dance for over 20 years. Along with her formal training in traditional dance, Kim was intrigued by the creative energy of contemporary dance as expressed in the urban forms of hip hop, which led her to work with both rising and established stars in the music industry including Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, Salt-N- Pepa, Mya, Yummy Bingham, Deemi, Dance Fusion, and Kr3t’s among many others.
Influences from Ballet, Jazz, Modern, African, Hip Hop and House make her solos intriguing and keep you wanting more. Kim’s artistry, talent and skill are focused on the expression of movement to inspire people of all ages to love life and commit to living to the fullest.
Kim’s philosophy is “Dance is a world of movement which allows us to express all emotions and gives us a sense of ability to release, heal, and be free spirits.” There is no room for mediocrity, only greatness!
Over the last 20 years, Kim Holmes has emerged as one of the premiere, influential luminaries of the urban dance movement with unparalleled vibrancy, sensuality, and versatility. This legendary, leading lady and vanguard of Hip-Hop dance culture, has sought to redefine the face of the hip hop/urban dance movement as a heavily sought after dancer, choreographer, and Founder and Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed, Universal Dance Movement.
Kim Holmes teaches at Cumbe: Center for African and Diaspora Dance, the home for African and diaspora dance in Brooklyn. Cumbe brings together classes and cultural education for dances from Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean. Through dance and music, Cumbe creates a community that celebrates exuberance, sensuality, power, and laughter!
