Litefeet is a dance that was born in Harlem and the Bronx in the mid-’2000s and is part of a family tree that includes the real Harlem Shake, the Chicken Noodle Soup, Tone Wop and the Rev up.
The creators of this art form are Mr. YouTube and Chrybaby Cozie.
Mr. YouTube and Chrybaby Cozie met in 2005 at a basketball game in Harlem. As an announcer chanted “Get the light feet going, get the light,” a dance genre — arguably the first to come from our streets since break-dancing — was born.
Both Creators were given their name by AG the voice of Harlem a basketball contaminator which used to announce to the basketball players ( Get the light feet going or get light ) and thats how this art form was born in 2006 arguably the first to come from the streets since break-dancing — was born.
Well-known teams include: W.A.F.F.L.E. (We Are Family For Life, Ent.) which was the first crew to showcase lite feet on the subways of New York city. LiteFeet is a street dance style that has been greatly influenced by the culture of NYC and has inherited several commonly known dance moves such as the Harlem Shake, the Tone Whop, and the Aunt Jackie. LiteFeet has become a defining New York style that today is a critical part of street dance culture.
“It was a dance of the community,” one early adopter, SpaceMan King of Spank FantasticBoyz, says today. Whereas break-dancing is about getting down on the floor, litefeet is all jumps and fast floaty footwork performed to dance music and chants.
Over the last few years it has been adopted and adapted city-wide, and there are Litefeet outposts in Connecticut, Virginia and Florida. It’s spread internationally by its Fundamentals being showcased in Peru by Lesley Feliziano and then Japan Tokyo being the first city outside US to absorb the litefeet culture by the XYZ Boyz then followed other cities and nations such as London, Paris and many more.
Litefeet is also the name of the music played along with the dance, often fast-paced 100-BPM rap beats and drum kits. HANN, M-Lyve, Kid the Wiz, Fliqht, BSN, Faro, AG the Voice of Harlem, DJ Webstar, and Young B are some well-known Litefeet music producers.
Its most visible promoter has been Goofy, leader of the WaffleNYC crew, who turned litefeet into “It’s Showtime!” on the subway. Joyful to some commuters, irritating to others, it now gets performers arrested. But the creators have moved on: Goofy has been dancing in ads in Europe, and Mr. YouTube runs NYCHA-funded classes, wearing shirts and hats from his four sponsors.
The expansion of litefeet also took place when Dcole a know videographer from NY approcahed Chrybaby & Mr. Youtube and asked them to be part of a concept which he created. It consisted of going to different neighborhoods and film dancer doing lite feet called "Dance Or Go Home" Where Mr Youtube hosted Volume 1 and Volume 2.In 2008 thats when the Litefeet culutre started establishing itself more and shaped the art form when DCole organised a battle event called Dark Wars which attracted dancer from all over to come and compete, thats where the Train performance culture was born majority of the dancers didn't have money to pay entry fee to battle or even get there so they used to jump the barriers and start busking on the train by dancing.DCOLE created a Youtube where Litefeet was captured and documented by the name of DCole47 this helped the culture reach out to larger audience in the country and internationally. DCOLE also had a big influence in created the Litefeet music genre with music producers called LIL SNS recognized like the Kool herc of Hip Hop but In LiteFeet he created a new Flava to Litefeet and included movement names in the songs so dancers where able to translate and took and pushed the litefeet beats to a new level.
